Greensboro LDO Sec. 30-8-11.3 permits horses, cows, sheep, goats (not swine) as accessory use. One animal per 3,000 sq ft, 50 ft setback. Fencing required.
Greensboro Land Development Ordinance Section 30-8-11.3(A) (Animals and Livestock) permits the keeping and raising of horses, cows, sheep, goats, and other livestock, except swine, as a permitted accessory use in applicable zoning districts. Swine are expressly prohibited. Livestock shelters and enclosures must maintain setbacks from property lines, typically 50 feet. No more than one animal over six months of age is permitted per 3,000 square feet of lot area. All livestock must be maintained in fenced enclosures to prevent escape and must not create a nuisance to neighboring properties through odor, noise, or waste. The ordinance is designed to accommodate Greensboro's mix of urban and semi-rural properties, particularly on larger lots in RS-40 and RS-30 districts. Livestock keeping is also subject to Guilford County Code Chapter 5 animal control provisions. Contact the Greensboro Planning Department at 336-373-2144 for zoning eligibility or Code Compliance for nuisance complaints.
Keeping prohibited livestock (swine) or violating setbacks: zoning violation enforced by Code Compliance. Nuisance conditions subject to abatement orders.
