Alaska legalized recreational cannabis in 2014. Adults 21+ may cultivate up to 6 plants per adult (max 12 per household) at their primary residence. Anchorage allows home grows under AS 17.38.
Alaska Statute 17.38.020 permits any person 21 or older to possess, grow, process, and transport up to one ounce of cannabis and up to six plants, with no more than three flowering at a time. A household with two or more adults may have up to 12 plants total and 6 flowering. Plants must be kept out of public view β meaning not visible to the public from a right-of-way without binoculars or other aid. Cultivation must occur at the adults primary residence in Alaska. Anchorage does not require a municipal permit or registration for personal home grows. Odor from a home grow can still trigger a nuisance complaint under AMC 15.70 if it crosses property lines. Renters should verify their lease because many Anchorage landlords prohibit cannabis cultivation. Federal housing (HUD-subsidized) prohibits all cannabis activity. Butane hash-oil extraction and other hazardous processing is illegal.
