San Diego residents can report code violations through the Get It Done app, online at getitdone.sandiego.gov, or by contacting the Development Services Department. Building & Land Use Enforcement investigates property violations. Non-emergency issues can also be reported through the Get It Done web portal.
San Diego's primary reporting tool for code violations and non-emergency city issues is the Get It Done system. The Get It Done mobile app (available for iOS and Android) allows residents to report problems with GPS location, photo attachments, and automatic status updates. The web portal is available at getitdone.sandiego.gov. For building and land use code violations, requests for investigation can be submitted online through the Development Services Department at sandiego.gov/development-services/building-land-use-enforcement. The Building & Land Use Enforcement Division responds to reports of private property violations including unpermitted construction, zoning violations, unsafe structures, and property maintenance issues. Complainant information is kept confidential, though in rare instances may be required in judicial proceedings. Anonymous requests are not accepted for code enforcement investigations. Priority is assigned based on severity, with imminent health and safety hazards receiving highest priority.
Code enforcement violations can result in Notice and Order to comply, administrative penalties, civil penalties up to $2,500 per day for ongoing violations, and criminal prosecution for serious cases.
