Grapevine enforces a juvenile curfew ordinance restricting minors under 17 from being in public places or businesses between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 12:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Daytime curfew applies during school hours for truancy. Exceptions include accompanied by parent, work, emergency, and First Amendment activity.
Grapevine's Code of Ordinances includes a juvenile curfew ordinance adopted under Texas Local Government Code authority. The curfew applies to minors under age 17 and restricts their presence in public places, on public streets, or in businesses open to the public during nighttime hours: 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 12:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday. A separate daytime curfew typically applies on school days between about 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to discourage truancy. Recognized exceptions include: accompanied by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult; going to or from lawful employment with documentation; responding to an emergency; attending a school, religious, civic, or other organized activity (including going to or from); exercising First Amendment rights such as protected speech or religious expression; engaged in interstate travel; or married or legally emancipated. Violations are Class C misdemeanors for minors and can result in citations up to $500 per offense. Parents or guardians who knowingly permit violations are also subject to citation. Historic Township and entertainment districts are focal points for enforcement, particularly on weekends and during major events. Texas law (Local Government Code 370.002) requires city councils to review juvenile curfew ordinances every three years to determine continued need.
