Grapevine is not designated a wildland-urban interface but has elevated fire risk near Grapevine Lake, the Cotton Belt greenbelt, and Tarrant County open space. Drought burn bans are frequent.
Grapevine is not formally designated as a wildland-urban interface (WUI) area under Texas A&M Forest Service mapping, unlike parts of West Texas and the Hill Country. However, portions of the city adjacent to Grapevine Lake (US Army Corps of Engineers land), the Cotton Belt Trail greenbelt, Parr Park, and the greenbelts running between subdivisions carry elevated grass and brush fire risk during Texas summer droughts. Tarrant County Commissioners Court issues countywide burn bans during high fire-danger periods, often several times per year in July through September. During burn bans, all outdoor burning including recreational fire pits, welding, and cutting torches on agricultural or vegetated land is restricted. Grapevine Fire Department participates in mutual-aid response with Tarrant County, Flower Mound, Colleyville, and Southlake for large fires. Homeowners near greenbelts and lake shoreline should maintain defensible space (10 to 30 feet cleared), keep gutters clear of leaves, and use noncombustible fence and deck materials where possible. Texas Senate Bill 3 (2021) established statewide weatherization and infrastructure rules but does not mandate specific residential fire hardening. Smoke-detector requirements (see separate rule) remain the primary life-safety tool for residential fire.
Burn ban violations up to 500 dollars per day plus state TCEQ penalties. Class C misdemeanor under Chapter 18.
