The City of Katy enforces nighttime and daytime juvenile curfews under Chapter 8, prohibiting minors from being in public during specified hours absent statutory exceptions.
Katy's juvenile curfew ordinance, found in Chapter 8, Article 8.02, Division 2, prohibits minors from being in public places during defined hours. Nighttime curfew runs 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12:01 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. A daytime curfew applies 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on school days, except for minors not subject to compulsory attendance or when school is cancelled. Standard exceptions cover travel with a parent, errands, employment, emergencies, and First Amendment activities.
Violations are typically Class C misdemeanors handled in municipal court, and parents who knowingly permit a violation may also be cited under the ordinance.
