Los Angeles County has not adopted a moratorium, cap, or ban on data centers. On April 14, 2026 the Board of Supervisors declined a full moratorium and instead approved a study of data-center impacts, with recommendations due within 120 days.
There is no data-center moratorium in unincorporated Los Angeles County. On April 14, 2026, the Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted Board Chair Hilda Solis's motion after residents raised concerns about data centers near their neighborhoods. Reporting on the vote noted that, absent sufficient support for a full moratorium, the Board approved a study instead. The motion directs the Departments of Regional Planning and Public Health, with Public Works, Fire, and the Chief Sustainability Office, to evaluate health, water, energy, and environmental impacts and to report back in writing within 120 days with recommendations, potentially including code amendments. New data centers may still be proposed and approved.
With no moratorium, there is nothing to violate on that basis. Data centers must still meet industrial zoning, obtain permits, complete CEQA review, and comply with the County noise ordinance.
