Irvine, CA Fence Regulations: Fence Permit Requirements (2026)

The City of Irvine's Wall and Fence Standards (Chapter 3-35 of the Zoning Ordinance) set a graduated height table by location before a fence crosses into permit territory. In residential and institutional front setbacks, fences top out at two and one-half feet at the property line, rising one foot for every three feet of setback up to a maximum of seven feet. Streetside fences follow the same rule unless there is no driveway access from that street, in which case they may go to seven feet.
