Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with the latch positioned at least 54 inches above the ground. Openings in the barrier cannot exceed 4 inches. Pool covers do not substitute for barriers. Inspection is required before pool use. Hot tubs over 24 inches deep also require barriers or locking covers.
Failure to maintain barriers can result in fines, pool closure orders, and significant liability if children gain access. Severe penalties apply for repeat violations.
