Ridgewood requires private swimming pools to be enclosed by code-compliant barriers under Chapter 251, with location restrictions setting pools at least ten feet from side and rear lot lines and prohibiting pools in front yards.
Ridgewood Chapter 251 governs swimming pool enclosures, working with the zoning provisions in Section 190-124. Pools, including any decking or patio adjacent to the pool, are prohibited in the front yard and must be set back from front lot lines no less than the minimum front yard depth, and at least ten feet from side and rear lot lines. Fence enclosures for residential pools must comply with both Section 190-124F and Chapter 251, Section 251-17. Where there is a conflict, the stricter Chapter 251 provisions apply.
Operating a pool without a compliant barrier may result in pool closure orders, fines, and liability exposure. The Village may require draining or removal until barriers meet code.
