Backyard fires in unincorporated Dallas County follow the same outdoor burning regulations enforced by the Dallas County Fire Marshal and TCEQ 30 TAC Chapter 111. A daily burn permit is required for any open flame. Small contained fires in approved containers (3 feet or less in diameter, 2 feet or less in height) may be positioned as close as 25 feet from structures. Larger fires must maintain a 300-foot setback from residences. All backyard fires must occur between sunrise and sunset with wind speeds below 15 mph and a responsible adult present with water supply. Burning is prohibited during Commissioners Court burn bans, No Burn Days, and Ozone Action Days in the DFW area.
