DeSoto adopts IFC Section 307 via Chapter 38, which permits recreational backyard fires for cooking, warmth, or ceremony so long as the fuel pile is under 3 feet wide and 2 feet tall, burns only seasoned firewood or charcoal (no garbage, leaves, pallets, or treated wood), sits at least 25 feet from any structure or combustible material (15 feet for a UL-listed portable outdoor fireplace), and is continuously attended by an adult with immediate access to a hose, bucket, or extinguisher. Chimineas and gas fire tables are treated as portable listed appliances. All recreational burning is automatically suspended when Dallas County Commissioners declare a burn ban.
