Backyard recreational fires are allowed in DeSoto under IFC 307.4.2 if ≤3 ft in diameter, 25 ft from structures, attended by an adult, and only clean wood is burned. Prohibited during Dallas County burn bans.
DeSoto adopts IFC Section 307 via Chapter 38, which permits recreational backyard fires for cooking, warmth, or ceremony so long as the fuel pile is under 3 feet wide and 2 feet tall, burns only seasoned firewood or charcoal (no garbage, leaves, pallets, or treated wood), sits at least 25 feet from any structure or combustible material (15 feet for a UL-listed portable outdoor fireplace), and is continuously attended by an adult with immediate access to a hose, bucket, or extinguisher. Chimineas and gas fire tables are treated as portable listed appliances. All recreational burning is automatically suspended when Dallas County Commissioners declare a burn ban.
