Carrollton, TX Fire Regulations: Fire Pits & Backyard Fires (2026)

16(H), part of Chapter 133's list of activities prohibited in public parks, forbids any person to make or kindle a fire, except in picnic stoves, braziers, fire pits or designated areas provided for that purpose. The rule is written as a blanket ban with a narrow carve-out: only equipment or locations the city itself has designated for fire use, such as installed picnic-area stoves, braziers or built fire pits, are lawful; an open fire built directly on the ground, in a grill brought from home and set on grass, or anywhere else in a park is prohibited outright.

16 park rules adopted in the same 2025 recodification of Chapter 133, including bans on cutting turf or vegetation, polluting park water, and leaving refuse outside receptacles, all enforceable the same way. 15 lets the Parks and Recreation Director recommend additional posted rules for specific park areas, and violating a posted rule is itself a misdemeanor once the rule is posted where an ordinarily observant park visitor would see it. 99(A)(1)(n), which caps the fine at $500. The current Chapter 133 was adopted by Ordinance 4257 on May 20, 2025, replacing the prior parks chapter that dated back to the 1965 Code.
