Fire pit rules in Tigard, OR β also called outdoor burning, recreational fire, or open flame ordinances β cover fuel types, clearances, and when burning is allowed.
Tigard has no stand-alone fire-pit chapter in the TMC. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R), the fire authority of record, limits recreational fires to a fuel area no larger than three feet in diameter and two feet in height, sited safely away from combustibles, attended, and fully extinguished after use.
TVF&R rules govern recreational fires in Tigard. Small cooking, warming, or recreational fires are allowed in portable or permanent fire pits, fire tables, chimineas, and campfire rings if the fuel area is no larger than three feet in diameter and two feet in height. The fire must sit away from combustible structures, be attended, and be fully extinguished before being left. Permitted fuels are dry seasoned firewood, charcoal briquettes, or manufactured fire-pit logs. Burning yard debris, treated wood, garbage, or construction debris is prohibited. Barbecues, smokers, gas fire tables, and propane heaters are allowed. When TVF&R declares a High-Fire Danger Burn Ban, only enclosed cooking and small recreational fires meeting the size limit may continue.
Illegal fires are handled by TVF&R fire-prevention officers and Tigard Code Compliance under TMC Title 6 as Class 1 civil infractions per TMC 1.16. Oversized fires or burn-ban violations are extinguished on the spot and may be fined.
