Watsonville is one of only two Santa Cruz County cities (with Capitola) where California 'Safe and Sane' fireworks are legal. They may be used on private property around July 4th; no one under 18 may discharge them. Aerial/explosive fireworks are illegal, with fines up to $1,000 per firework.
Safe and Sane fireworks bear the State Fire Marshal seal and are sold by licensed nonprofits. The City of Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley and all unincorporated areas ban all fireworks. Anything that flies or explodes is illegal countywide.
Illegal fireworks: up to $1,000 per firework. Safe and Sane limited to private property; 18+ to discharge.
