The Alabama Forestry Commission can issue statewide burn bans under AL Code §9-13-141 and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) enforces those bans inside city limits. Homeowners are encouraged to maintain defensible space, clear gutters, and avoid storing firewood against structures. During red-flag conditions BFRS may suspend any open burning, including permitted recreational fires, until the state lifts the alert.
