Western Jupiter neighborhoods bordering the J.W. Corbett Wildlife Management Area and Loxahatchee Slough are designated Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) zones. Homes in these areas face elevated wildfire risk and are encouraged to follow Firewise USA defensible-space standards.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue participates in the Florida Forest Service WUI program. Recommended: 30-foot Zone 1 clearance, ember-resistant soffits and vents, and removal of pine straw and palmetto within 5 feet of structures. During Red Flag Warning days issued by the National Weather Service Miami, all outdoor flames are discouraged. The 2008 Corbett fire burned thousands of acres just west of Jupiter, making mitigation a priority.
