Largo is a built-out coastal urban area without formally mapped wildfire hazard zones, but properties bordering preserves or undeveloped tracts must follow Florida Forest Service mitigation guidance and Fire Code defensible-space expectations.
Largo does not maintain mapped wildfire hazard severity zones in its code, but Chapter 13 adopts the Florida Fire Prevention Code, which incorporates wildland-urban interface provisions. Properties adjacent to Largo Central Park Nature Preserve, McKay Creek, the Pinellas Trail corridor, and other undeveloped tracts are encouraged to maintain at least 30 feet of defensible space around structures, store firewood and propane away from buildings, and keep gutters and roofs clear of combustible debris. The Florida Forest Service tracks the Keetch-Byram Drought Index for Pinellas County and may issue regional burn bans during high-risk periods that override otherwise allowed activity.
There are no wildfire-zone-specific fines, but failure to maintain defensible space can trigger nuisance and brush-clearance violations under Chapter 14 and Chapter 9.
