The Unified Development Ordinance treats a garage sale as a special event (Sec. 6.1520) but exempts it from the special-event permit. Section 6.1540(D) allows garage sales up to four times per year, not to exceed five days per event and 20 days per year, with no application or fee. Sales must be on residential property where a dwelling is located. Signs advertising the sale may be placed only on the property where the sale is held (Sec. 6.1580) and never in the public right-of-way (Sec. 26-9).
Exceeding the four-sale or 20-day cap, or placing signs in the right-of-way, is a code violation; Property Maintenance Code fines run $50 to $500 per offense.
