Nelson Home Business: Signage Rules Rules (2026)

Clark County Title 30 (Unified Development Code) home occupation standards require that the business produce no external evidence that the dwelling is being used for anything other than residential purposes. This specifically prohibits exterior signage including business signs on the building, lawn signs, window advertisements visible from the street, banners, flags, and vehicle signage parked in a conspicuous manner. The one narrow exception is that a company vehicle used for the business may be parked on the property but the signage on that vehicle is generally limited in size and the vehicle cannot be larger than a standard pickup or cargo van. Sandwich boards, A-frames, and portable signs are banned. Temporary signs for garage sales are allowed under separate Title 30 sign code provisions but cannot be used to advertise an ongoing home business. This is among the strictest signage rules in the valley; applicants regularly have home occupation permits denied or revoked when code enforcement finds any visible business indicator. Master-planned communities and HOAs across Summerlin, Aliante, Mountain's Edge, and Southern Highlands often add further sign prohibitions through CC and Rs.
