Atlanta requires residential lawns and lots to be mowed so grass and weeds do not exceed 12 inches. Lots that exceed the limit are tagged for abatement under Atlanta Code Ch. 74, Art. III.
Atlanta Code Β§74-62 through Β§74-66 address overgrown lots as a nuisance. Grass, weeds, and rank vegetation may not exceed 12 inches on any improved property. Vacant lots are held to a similar standard, especially near occupied homes. Violations are typically handled through ATL311 complaints: a code officer inspects, posts a notice, and gives the owner roughly 10 days to cure. If the owner fails to cut the vegetation, the city may abate the violation and place a lien on the property for the costs plus administrative fees. During summer growing season, complaints are common and response times run 2-4 weeks.
Post-notice fines, abatement costs, and liens under Β§74-66 of the Code.
