Atlanta's EV Ready ordinance requires 20% of new multifamily parking to be EV-capable. Home Level 2 chargers need an electrical permit, and cords cannot cross public sidewalks.
Atlanta's Electric Vehicle Readiness Ordinance (adopted 2017 and expanded since) requires 20% of new residential building parking and significant commercial parking to be EV-capable or EV-ready. For single-family homes, Level 2 (240V) chargers require an electrical permit from the Office of Buildings; a load calculation may be requested for older service panels. Charging cords may not cross a public sidewalk to reach a parked vehicle. Dedicated public EV spaces are enforceable: non-EVs parking in a marked EV-only space can be cited or towed. The city continues to expand Georgia Power and private network chargers, particularly along the BeltLine and at MARTA stations.
Electrical permit violations are cited under the building code. Non-EV parking in EV-only spaces is a parking citation.
