Atlanta, GA Parking Rules: Abandoned Vehicles (2026)

City code makes it unlawful for an owner or occupant to let a junked motor vehicle, self-propelled, unregistered, and wrecked, dismantled, abandoned, partially dismantled, or inoperative, sit on any lot, tract, or premises in Atlanta, and equally unlawful to place one on someone else's property. The vehicle is a public nuisance per se unless it sits inside an enclosed building, is needed for a lawfully operating business, or is on a properly zoned vehicle repair/reconditioning lot. The commissioner of public works posts written notice on the vehicle; if it isn't removed, the case goes to Municipal Court, and the city can then tow it and bill the property owner for removal.
