Atlanta requires vehicles to park on an approved hard-surface driveway. Parking on front lawns is prohibited, driveways cannot block sidewalks, and curb cuts require a DOT permit.
Atlanta Code Ch. 150 (Traffic) and Ch. 158 (Zoning) govern driveways. Passenger vehicles must park on a driveway, in a garage, or in a permitted parking pad of concrete, asphalt, pavers, or approved permeable material. Parking on grass, dirt, or across a sidewalk is a citable offense. New or widened driveways require a curb cut permit; the city limits driveway width to protect on-street parking capacity and pedestrian safety. In many historic districts, front-yard parking pads are restricted under Atlanta Code Ch. 16 to preserve neighborhood character. Blocking a sidewalk, even partially, is enforceable whether or not the vehicle extends into the street.
Parking citations are written under Ch. 150; unlawful driveways may be cited under Ch. 158 and required to be removed.
