La Porte limits grass and vegetation height to 12 inches on all residential and commercial properties. Overgrown properties are subject to code enforcement action, and the city may mow the property and assess the cost to the owner.
The City of La Porte prohibits grass, weeds, and vegetation from exceeding 12 inches in height on any residential or commercial property under its property maintenance standards. This applies to all areas of the lot including front yards, side yards, rear yards, vacant lots, and alley frontages. Property owners are responsible for maintaining their lot and the area between the property line and the street curb (the parkway or boulevard strip). When a violation is identified, Code Enforcement issues a notice giving the property owner a specified period to mow and bring the property into compliance, typically 10 days. If the owner fails to comply within the notice period, the city has the authority to mow the property and place a lien on the property for the cost of the work plus administrative fees. This is particularly important during the growing season from April through October when Gulf Coast grass growth is rapid. Contact Code Enforcement at (281) 471-5020 to report overgrown lots.
First notice gives 10 days to comply. If not mowed, the city mows and bills the property owner. Repeat violations within 12 months allow the city to mow without additional notice. Costs include mowing fees plus administrative charges placed as a lien on the property.
