Indianapolis-Marion County Rev. Code Ch. 575 sets the maximum height for grass, weeds, and rank vegetation at 9 inches on improved residential and commercial lots. DPW's Weed Control Program inspects on complaint and during seasonal sweeps. Violators receive a Notice of Violation with a 5-day compliance window (per ยง575-104). If not cut, the city abates through a contracted mowing vendor and charges the owner a minimum $250 plus $50 administrative fee. Unpaid abatement costs become a certified lien on the property per IC ยง36-7-10.1. Repeat offenders may be added to a no-notice mowing list.
