New Jersey's statewide Noise Control standard, enforced in Galloway Township, caps continuous sound at a residential property line at 65 dBA from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and 50 dBA from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Galloway's own Chapter 253 uses a plain-disturbance test.
Galloway Township Code Chapter 253 defines violations largely by disturbance rather than a local decibel table, so the governing numeric limits come from New Jersey's DEP Noise Control regulation, N.J.A.C. 7:29-1.2, which municipalities adopt and enforce. At a receiving residential property line, continuous airborne sound may not exceed 65 dBA during the day (7:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.) or 50 dBA at night (10:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.). Impulsive sound may not exceed an 80 dBA peak. The DEP also imposes octave-band limits and repetition rules for impulsive noise.
Exceeding the N.J.A.C. 7:29 limits, enforced through Chapter 253, is punishable by a fine up to $2,000, up to 90 days jail and/or community service; each day is a separate offense.
