Galloway Township's Property Maintenance Code bars weeds or plant growth over 10 inches on residential lots (6 inches for commercial/multifamily). "Weeds" means grasses, annual plants and vegetation other than trees or shrubs, excluding cultivated gardens.
Chapter 267, § 267-16, treats overgrown weeds as a maintenance violation. Commercial, industrial and multifamily premises must keep landscaped and lawn areas trimmed and free from becoming overgrown or significantly infested with weeds so as to be unsightly or constitute a blighting factor or public nuisance. The definition of "weeds" is broad but expressly excludes cultivated flowers and gardens. Separately, Chapter 119 lets the Road Foreman order roadside brush and hedges cut to 2 1/2 feet for sight-line safety.
Code Enforcement issues an abatement notice; if the owner fails to comply, the Township may cut the growth and bill the owner, and municipal-court fines may apply.
