Quiet hours in Venice, FL — also called the noise ordinance, nighttime noise rules, or residential quiet time — define the hours during which excessive noise is prohibited.
Venice Code of Ordinances Chapter 34, Article II (Noise Control), Secs. 34-26 through 34-37 governs noise. Multifamily-dwelling sound is capped at 55 dB(A) from 7-10 p.m. and 45 dB(A) from 10 p.m.-7 a.m. on weekdays (10 p.m.-10 a.m. weekends/holidays) measured in an adjacent dwelling.
Chapter 34, Article II is Venice's general noise-control article and sits inside the 'Environment' chapter of the Code of Ordinances. The article applies citywide and is enforced by Venice Police and Code Enforcement. The multifamily-dwelling test is measured inside an adjacent unit and may not be exceeded for more than 10 percent of any measurement period (minimum 10 minutes). Outside multifamily settings, the article also prohibits operating any loudspeaker, musical instrument, drum, sound-reproduction device or similar equipment in a place of public entertainment at a level that allows the sound to be heard in any residential or noise-sensitive area. Sec. 34-37 sets out the exemptions (emergency work, parades, etc.).
Violations of Chapter 34 are punished under the general penalty in Sec. 1-14 of the Code: fines up to $500 and/or up to 60 days in jail per Florida law, with each day a separate offense. Code Enforcement may also pursue civil penalties through the Code Enforcement Board.
