Broome County, NY Parking Rules: Commercial Vehicle Restrictions (2026)

Commercial vehicle parking in residential zones in Broome County is restricted by each municipality. Binghamton City Code Ch. 335 (Vehicles and Traffic) and Ch. 410 (Zoning) prohibit overnight parking of commercial vehicles over 10,000 lbs GVW on residential streets and in residential zoning districts. Tractor-trailers, dump trucks, and box trucks above the limit must be stored at commercial yards or industrial-zoned lots. Active loading or unloading is exempt for a reasonable time (typically 30-60 minutes). Pickup trucks, vans, and small utility vehicles under the GVW threshold and without commercial signage may park overnight at a residence. Town of Vestal, Town of Union, and Village of Johnson City have parallel restrictions. Commercial vehicles with prominent advertising or equipment racks may still be restricted even below the weight limit under some town zoning codes. Trailers (boat, utility, horse) have separate rules under RV/boat parking.
