Utica's Motor Vehicles and Traffic Code restricts parking of certain commercial vehicles in residential districts, and its zoning code bans front-yard parking, limiting where trucks and work vehicles can be kept on residential streets and lots.
Section 2-16-207 of Chapter 2-16 addresses 'Certain commercial vehicles in residential districts,' restricting where commercial vehicles may park on residential streets. Front-yard parking of vehicles is separately prohibited by the 2021 Zoning Code except within a permitted driveway, so a resident may not store a large commercial truck in the front yard or on the lawn. On-street, any unlicensed, unregistered or uninspected vehicle (including work vehicles) is barred under Section 2-16-202. Loading and unloading by commercial vehicles is allowed briefly in signed restricted zones for the expeditious loading or unloading of goods or persons.
Commercial-vehicle parking violations are enforced through the standard parking-fine schedule ($50 base) and, for zoning breaches, through Codes Enforcement notices and penalties.
