The unincorporated County has no special oversized-vehicle street ordinance like the City of San Diego's. Oversized vehicles on unincorporated streets are governed by the general 72-hour storage rule of County Code Sec. 72.122, plus the commercial-vehicle weight limit of Sec. 72.126 for trucks rated 10,000 pounds or more.
San Diego County's unincorporated areas do not have a dedicated oversized/recreational-vehicle parking ordinance. The City of San Diego's Municipal Code Sec. 86.0139 prohibits oversized, non-motorized, and recreational vehicles from parking on public streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. and within 50 feet of an intersection, but that City rule applies only inside city limits, not in the unincorporated County. In the unincorporated County, an oversized vehicle parked on a public street is subject to County Code Sec. 72.122, which prohibits parking any vehicle on a street or alley for more than 72 consecutive hours; the vehicle must be moved at least 0.5 mile to reset the clock, and after 72 hours the Sheriff or CHP may remove it under Vehicle Code Sec. 22651/22652. If the oversized vehicle is a heavy commercial vehicle rated 10,000 pounds gross or more, the additional residential-street ban of County Code Sec. 72.126 applies. Posted local restrictions and Vehicle Code rules (such as parking too close to an intersection, or blocking sightlines) also apply. There is no County overnight oversized-vehicle ban paralleling the City's 2-6 a.m. rule.
An oversized vehicle left on an unincorporated street over 72 hours (not moved 0.5 mile) is subject to removal under Sec. 72.122 and Vehicle Code Sec. 22651/22652. A heavy commercial vehicle rated 10,000 lbs or more parked on a residential street violates Sec. 72.126.
