In unincorporated Douglas County, RVs, boats and trailers can't sit on a public road longer than 72 hours within a seven-day period in designated urban areas. In Castle Rock, the same 72-hour cap applies on residential streets, and stored RVs must sit on an improved surface, not grass or dirt.
Castle Rock Municipal Code 10.16.010.B makes it unlawful to park a recreational vehicle (motor home, camper, trailer coach, watercraft, snowmobile, off-highway vehicle) longer than 72 consecutive hours in any seven-day period on a residential-area right-of-way; moving it within a 1,000-foot radius does not restart the clock. Douglas County's 2025 traffic-and-parking ordinance imposes the same 72-hour/seven-day limit on public roads in the Highlands Ranch, Chatfield and Parker planning areas. On private lots, Castle Rock requires RVs, boats and trailers to be parked on a driveway or other improved surface.
Castle Rock fines start at $100 (first), $250 (second within 12 months) and $500 (third). Unincorporated-county RV road violations run $25, $50, then $100.
