On residentially zoned property, recreational vehicles and boats must be parked in an interior side yard or rear yard, at least 5 feet from side lines and 10 feet from the rear line. Interior side-yard RVs must be screened from adjoining property.
Chesterfield County's Zoning Ordinance governs where residents may store recreational vehicles, boats, and travel trailers. They are not permitted in the required front yard. In an interior side yard the RV must be screened from adjoining lots by a fence up to seven feet tall or by a row of evergreen trees the length of the vehicle. Inoperable trailers are separately regulated by County Code sec. 13-62 and must be shielded or screened from view. Homeowner-association covenants in many Chesterfield subdivisions impose stricter limits than the county, so check your HOA rules as well.
Zoning violations are enforced by Community Enhancement; owners receive notice to relocate or screen the vehicle, and unresolved cases can bring civil penalties and abatement.
