Coral Gables, FL Property Maintenance: Garage Sale Rules (2026)

Coral Gables requires a garage sale permit obtained through the city's permit application process. The fee is $30 plus a $1 filing fee. The same household cannot hold more than two garage sales within a calendar year, and sales must be at least 30 days apart. Each garage sale is limited to a maximum of two consecutive days. Operating hours are restricted to 9 AM to 5 PM. Only the seller's personal property usual to a household may be sold—commercial merchandise, consignment items, or goods purchased for resale are prohibited. One garage sale sign is permitted on the premises, not exceeding 40 inches in any dimension, placed within 5 feet of the property line. Off-site signs, signs on utility poles, and signs in the public right-of-way are not allowed. Items for sale must be displayed neatly and should not encroach on sidewalks, driveways, or the public right-of-way. At the conclusion of the sale, all unsold items must be removed from view and the property returned to its normal appearance. The permit must be displayed during the sale. Garage sales that operate as regular commercial activity or exceed the permitted frequency may be cited as an unpermitted home business.
