Coral Gables enforces strict property maintenance standards requiring trash bins and containers to be stored out of public view except during collection hours. Properties must be kept free of accumulated trash, debris, and discarded items. The city's Code Enforcement Division actively monitors compliance with property appearance standards.
Coral Gables requires trash bins and containers to be stored in a location not visible from the street or public view except during designated collection hours. This is consistent with the city's overall commitment to maintaining the aesthetic character of neighborhoods. Residential waste collection is provided by the city's Sanitation Division. Bins must be placed at the curb or designated collection point no earlier than the evening before collection and must be retrieved and stored out of sight by the end of the collection day. Trash containers must be kept clean and in good repair. Overflowing bins or loose trash around containers may result in Code Enforcement citations. Properties must be kept free of accumulated newspapers, circulars, flyers, discarded personal items including furniture, clothing, large and small appliances, building materials, and any other debris. Bulk items must be scheduled for special pickup and should not be left at the curb outside of scheduled collection times. Commercial properties must use screened dumpster enclosures that comply with Board of Architects design standards. The city prohibits the accumulation of junk, trash, or debris on any property as a nuisance under the Code of Ordinances.
Leaving trash bins visible from the street outside collection hours may result in Code Enforcement citations. Accumulated trash or debris on a property can result in fines starting at $250 per day. Repeat offenders may be referred to the Code Enforcement Board for enhanced penalties up to $1,000 per day.
