Redondo Beach regulates garage sales under RBMC 4-23.01 and 4-23.02. Residents must file a free Garage Sale Affidavit with the Licensing Division before selling. Only one sale is allowed per residence in any 12-month period, lasting no more than three consecutive days or two consecutive weekends.
RBMC Section 4-23.01 restricts garage and similar sales to personal property the resident owns and uses on the residential premises, or property of family members, preventing the sale from operating as an ongoing retail business. Section 4-23.02 governs such sales generally. Only one sale may be conducted in any twelve (12) month period, and it may last not more than three (3) consecutive days or two (2) consecutive weekends of two (2) days each. Residents must complete and file a Garage Sale Affidavit with the City's Licensing Division (Financial Services); there is no fee. The fillable affidavit is submitted by email to blmail@redondo.org and confirms the resident understands the frequency, duration, and personal-property restrictions.
Holding more than one sale per 12 months, exceeding the duration limits, selling purchased-for-resale merchandise, or selling without the required affidavit violates RBMC 4-23 and can be cited by Code Enforcement, with the sale subject to shutdown.
