Athens Services, the City's exclusive hauler, supplies grey (landfill), blue (recycling), and green (organics) carts in 35, 65, or 95-gallon sizes. Under RBMC 5-2.105 containers may only be at the curb from 11:59 p.m. the night before collection to 11:59 p.m. collection day. Owners must maintain carts in good condition.
RBMC Title 5, Chapter 2 requires solid waste containers to be provided by the owner, tenant, lessee, or occupant of the premises where waste is generated, and maintained in good condition and placed out as approved by the Director. Section 5-2.105 (precollection practices) makes it unlawful to place or permit containers to remain on public streets, alleys, curbs, or sidewalks before 11:59 p.m. of the day prior to the regular collection day, or after 11:59 p.m. of the collection day. The City instructs residents to set carts out by 7:00 a.m., lid facing the street, wheels against the curb, about one foot apart, and remove them the evening of collection. Athens Services provides and replaces carts at (888) 336-6100.
Carts left at the curb outside the RBMC 5-2.105 window, or stored where they create a nuisance, may draw a Code Enforcement correction notice and an administrative citation. Report damaged or missing carts to Athens Services for replacement.
