Arlington regulates trash container placement through its property maintenance standards. Bins must be stored out of public view when not set out for collection. The city provides standardized carts through its contracted waste hauler.
Carts must be placed at the curb on scheduled collection day and retrieved promptly after pickup. When stored, containers should be behind the front building line or otherwise screened from street view. Overflowing containers and loose trash are property maintenance violations. The city's Code Compliance division enforces container storage rules.
Bins left at the curb beyond allowed periods or stored visibly from the street may result in Code Compliance notices. Progressive fines apply for repeated violations.
