San Antonio's solid waste ordinance (Chapter 14) and Property Maintenance Code regulate trash cart placement and storage. Carts must be placed against the curb by 7 AM on the assigned collection day. It is unlawful to park a vehicle within 3 feet of a collection container on collection day (Sec. 14-45). Residents receive brown trash carts (48/64/96 gallon options), free blue recycling carts, and free green organics carts.
San Antonio requires trash and recycling bins to be stored out of public view between collection days, typically behind a fence, in a garage, or on the side of the house screened from the street. Bins can be placed at the curb the evening before or morning of collection and must be retrieved the same day. Bins must be placed with lids closed and not overflowing. Some areas designate specific placement locations relative to driveways and mailboxes. Commercial properties have separate dumpster screening requirements. HOAs may have stricter bin storage rules.
Warnings for first offense. Fines typically $25 to $100 per occurrence. Repeat violations may escalate to code enforcement action.
