UCMC Chapter 7.08 declares all weeds, rubbish, and refuse on streets, sidewalks, or private property a public nuisance and requires owners to keep parcels clear; the Fire Chief enforces abatement with a 10-day notice.
Union City's Weed Abatement ordinance (UCMC Ch. 7.08, Ord. 36-60) declares all weeds growing on streets, sidewalks, or private property, and all rubbish, refuse, and dirt on parkways or sidewalks, to be a public nuisance. Every owner must keep each parcel, improved or unimproved, free from grass, weeds, dead trees, rubbish, refuse, and waste that could endanger neighbors or public safety. The Fire Chief (or designee) inspects, issues written notice, and gives about 10 days to comply, with an appeal to the City Council. If the owner fails to act, the City abates the weeds and adds the cost to the tax roll as a special assessment. Overgrown vegetation likely to harbor vermin is separately a nuisance under Β§7.16.030.
Failure to abate after notice lets the City perform the work and recover costs as a special assessment on the property tax bill (UCMC Ch. 7.08). The nuisance is also citable under Chapter 7.16.
