Full Breakdown
The City Traffic Engineer marks red curbs citywide to flag locations that are always off-limits to parking, divisional islands, crosswalk approaches, safety-zone ends, and hazard areas among them. Under § 10.36.390, red paint 'means no stopping, standing or parking at any time except as permitted by the Vehicle Code,' and the only carve-out is a bus stopping in a marked or signed bus zone. Section 10.36.050 separately authorizes red curb marking wherever the Traffic Engineer finds a traffic hazard, the Council designates a no-parking area, or a public walkway terminates at the street. The restriction runs continuously, it never lifts at night or on weekends the way posted time-limit zones do.
Violations & Fines
Stopping, standing, or parking next to a red curb violates § 10.36.390 and § 10.36.050; vehicles are subject to citation and towing under the City's traffic enforcement provisions.
