Livermore, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

060(A) authorizes the traffic engineer to place curb markings in five colors, each carrying a fixed legal meaning citywide rather than varying block to block. A red curb means no stopping, standing or parking at any time, except as permitted by the state Vehicle Code, and except that a transit bus may stop in a red zone marked or signed as a bus zone. A yellow curb means no stopping, standing or parking at any time except for loading or unloading passengers or freight for the time posted on the accompanying sign.

A white curb permits stopping only to load or unload passengers, capped at three minutes, and that cap applies at all times of day. A green curb signals time-limited parking, or no parking during specified hours, exactly as the posted sign states. A blue curb reserves the space exclusively for vehicles displaying a valid disabled placard. Subsection (B) makes the colors enforceable: once the traffic engineer has placed a legible sign or curb marking, no person may stop, stand, or park a vehicle adjacent to it in violation of the marking.

Because curb color is defined by ordinance rather than by each posted sign's individual wording, an officer citing a car parked at a red curb does not need a separate sign present at that exact spot to enforce the color code.
