Union City requires vehicles parked on residential property to sit on an approved driveway, concrete apron or rear-yard surface. Parking in the required front yard, side yard, corner vision triangle, parkway or on permeable/unpaved surfaces is prohibited, and nothing may overhang the sidewalk.
Chapter 10.36 makes it unlawful to park any vehicle, trailer, boat trailer or boat within the side yard, required front yard, setback area or corner vision triangle established by the zoning ordinance (Title 18). The rule does not apply to driveways or concrete aprons built under a Building Department permit, or constructed before the ordinance was adopted. In residential districts, parking on permeable surfaces is never allowed, and large or non-motorized vehicles may not park in any part of a front yard that is not a driveway or approved extension. The code also prohibits parking within any parkway (the strip between curb and sidewalk). Vehicles on a driveway must stay fully on private property and may not overhang the sidewalk.
Parking in a required front or side yard, on a permeable or unpaved surface, in the parkway, or overhanging the sidewalk is a municipal-code violation enforced by code enforcement with citation.
