Union City bars parking commercial vehicles rated 10,000 pounds GVWR or more on any street or highway in a residential district, except while actively making pickups or deliveries; heavy vehicles over 20 feet or 10,000 pounds are also banned citywide except in Council-designated areas.
Under Chapter 10.36, no person may park or leave standing on any street or highway in a residential district a commercial vehicle rated 10,000 pounds GVWR or more, except while it is making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares or merchandise to or from a building. Separately, any vehicle longer than 20 feet and/or rated 10,000 pounds GVWR or more may not stop, stand or park on any highway, street or alley at any time, except in areas the City Council designates by resolution. Commercial trucks also meet the 'large vehicle' definition (over 6 ft high and 20 ft long, or over 8.5 ft wide) and so are banned from City streets between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Parking a heavy commercial vehicle in a residential district (outside active loading) or anywhere over the size/weight thresholds is a parking infraction subject to citation and towing under Chapter 10.36.
