Recreational vehicles, boats on trailers and travel trailers may be stored on private residential property only on an approved driveway, concrete apron or rear-yard parking surface, fully contained on the lot, and may not be parked in the required front yard, side yard or corner vision triangle.
Union City's zoning rules (Title 18) allow mobilehomes, recreational vehicles, trailers and boats on trailers in rear yards, or on a driveway or concrete apron adjacent to a driveway built with Economic and Community Development Department approval. All such vehicles must sit entirely on private property and may not overhang the public right-of-way, including the sidewalk. Under Chapter 10.36 it is unlawful to park any vehicle, trailer, boat trailer or boat within the side yard, required front yard, setback area or corner vision triangle; this does not apply to permitted driveways or aprons. Parking on permeable surfaces is not allowed. On the street, a boat trailer is a non-motorized vehicle subject to the large-vehicle 2 a.m.-6 a.m. ban.
RVs, boats or trailers stored in a prohibited front or side yard, on an unapproved surface, or overhanging the sidewalk are a municipal-code violation subject to citation and abatement; on-street boat trailers also fall under the 2 a.m.-6 a.m. ban.
