San Leandro limits RVs, boats, campers, and trailers to one per residential property, restricts on-street overnight parking between 2 AM and 6 AM, and bars front-yard placement within 20 feet of the sidewalk except in the driveway when no other space is available.
Under San Leandro Municipal Code (SLMC) Section 6-1-430(b), no motor vehicle exceeding 20 feet in length and 7 feet in height may be parked or left standing within 20 feet of the front yard or street-side yard (on a corner lot) of the sidewalk; such vehicles may use the driveway only if rear-yard or side-yard space is unavailable, and no part of the vehicle may overhang the public sidewalk. SLMC Section 6-1-430(a) further prohibits any motor vehicle with more than two axles, or any single vehicle/combination exceeding 20 feet long, 7 feet tall, or 10,000 pounds GVWR, from being parked on any street in a Residence District between 2 AM and 6 AM. Per the City's official guidance, campers, trailers, and boats may be parked in the paved driveway (but not on lawn or dirt), while RVs must be parked in the side yard or backyard if reasonable access exists. The Municipal Code limits private property to a maximum of one such recreational vehicle on a property at any time. SLMC Section 3-1-200(h)(5) classifies oversized vehicles (20+ feet long, 7+ feet wide/tall, or 10,000+ GVWR) visible from public streets as a public nuisance, though recreational vehicles in compliance with 6-1-430 are exempt. A Summer 2025 Code Amendments Package proposed by city staff would further restrict oversized vehicles (defined as exceeding 22 feet long, 6 feet wide, or 7 feet tall) to a 2-hour citywide street limit.
Per the San Leandro Police Department citation schedule, an off-street oversized vehicle violation under SLMC 6-1-430(d) carries a $156 fine. On-street overnight (2 AM-6 AM) violations and front-yard setback violations are enforced by SLPD Traffic Division and Code Enforcement. Persistent nuisance violations under SLMC 3-1-200 may be abated through administrative enforcement procedures in Chapter 1-12.
