San Leandro follows California Building Code requirements: working smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and on each floor. 10-year sealed batteries required for replacements.
Under California Health and Safety Code 13113.7 and the CA Building Code, all San Leandro dwellings must have smoke alarms in each sleeping room, outside sleeping areas, and on every floor including basements. Replacements after July 2015 must use 10-year sealed lithium batteries or be hardwired. Carbon monoxide alarms are also required under Senate Bill 183 in homes with gas appliances, fireplaces, or attached garages. Rental units must be certified before a new tenancy.
