Short-term rental properties in unincorporated San Diego County must comply with the county's general noise ordinance. No separate STR-specific noise rules exist. Residential noise limits of 50 dBA day / 45 dBA night apply at the property line.
The county does not have a dedicated STR noise ordinance for unincorporated areas. All properties, including those used as short-term rentals, are subject to the general noise ordinance (Title 3, Div. 6, Ch. 4). Residential zone limits of 50 dBA daytime and 45 dBA nighttime measured at the property line apply. STR operators should inform guests of noise rules and quiet hours. Noise complaints are investigated by the County Code Compliance Division and the Sheriff's Department.
Noise violations are misdemeanors under Section 36.414. Fines up to $1,000 and/or up to six months imprisonment. Repeat violations at an STR property could trigger nuisance abatement proceedings.
