SMC Chapter 6.600 (Short-Term Rental Regulations) does not impose a separate STR-specific decibel standard, but operators must post their STR operator license number on every listing and are responsible for guest behavior; persistent, verified noise complaints are treated by the Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) as a basis for license enforcement, including suspension or revocation, in addition to any direct citation against the offending guest. A first-time noise infraction under Chapter 25.08 carries a civil penalty starting at $250. A second violation within a 24-hour period may be charged as a misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in jail and/or a $500 fine, with escalating penalties for repeat offenses. Separately under SMC 6.600, FAS may impose $500 for a first STR violation and $1,000 for subsequent violations, and may suspend or revoke the STR operator license after a documented pattern of nuisance complaints. SDCI may also pursue housing-code enforcement against the property if applicable.
